South Dakota Counseling Association

The South Dakota Counseling Association (SDCA) is a partnership of associations representing professional counselors who enhance human development by providing benefits, products and services to expand professional knowledge and expertise; to promote recognition of counselors to the public and media; and to represent member's interests before federal, state, and local government.

American Counseling Association

As the world's largest association representing professional counselors in various practice settings, the American Counseling Association stands ready to serve nearly 55,000 members with the resources they need to make a difference. From webinars, publications, and journals to Conference education sessions and legislative action alerts, ACA is where counseling professionals turn for powerful, credible content and support. It is a great place for clients to find general information on counseling.

National Board of Certified Counselors

The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC), an independent not-for-profit credentialing body for counselors, was incorporated in 1982 to establish and monitor a national certification system, to identify those counselors who have voluntarily sought and obtained certification, and to maintain a register of those counselors.

NBCC's flagship credential is the National Certified Counselor (NCC). NBCC also offers specialty certification in several areas:

  • School counseling - The National Certified School Counselor (NCSC)
  • Clinical mental health counseling - The Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC)
  • Addictions counseling - The Master Addictions Counselor (MAC)

 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Association

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities.  

 South Dakota Board of Examiners –Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists

The board protects South Dakota's Counseling Consumers of counseling and marriage and family services by making sure those licensed by the board  are maintaining the best therapeutic practices for you. 

South Dakota Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals
The board provides a foundation for the continuing development of practitioners in the field as well as the credentialing of alcohol and drug professionals within the generally accepting standards of professionals within the generally accepting standards of professionalism and competence using valid and reliable examination.
